Following the debut of the Ford Mustang Mach-E for the 2021 model year, former Ford engineer (who was part of the team that developed the original Taurus), owner of engineering consulting firm Munro & Associates, Inc., and YouTuber Sandy Munro secured an example of the EV crossover and proceeded to tear it down and analyze all of its components. The results were rather interesting, as Munro praised certain pieces of the Mach-E while criticizing others. Now, Munro is back with a 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E, giving us his thoughts on the updated model.
Back in 2021, Munro praised the Mach-E’s suspension setup, front e-motor, and body engineering, though he wasn’t quite as big a fan of the overly complex rear e-motor. However, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E received a few updates that included new, in-house e-motors, which are quite a bit different than the outgoing model’s, producing more power and offering up greater efficiency, with range improvements of 10 miles for the GT and 20 miles for regular models, while charging speeds also improved by 20 percent.
Aside from those improvements, Munro notes that the body panel gaps on his 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E are “superb,” though he still isn’t a fan of the way the front doors open. The frunk has been revamped a bit with fewer parts than the older 2021 model, and he’s a fan of the rear seat room and comfort as well, as well as the ride quality overall.
This particular model is a GT with the new Performance Upgrade – giving it an extra 100 pound-feet of torque, taking that figure up to 700 – enabling the Mach-E GT to rocket from 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and down the quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph, which is quicker than both the Tesla Model Y Performance and Porsche Macan EV. Munro is Cleary impressed with that acceleration as well, though he also notes that a heavy right foot makes the Mach-E quite a bit less efficient, as one might imagine.
