Following its debut for the 2022 model year, the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning has been treated to a few updates, though nothing that would constitute a refresh. With the next-generation version delayed a second time recently, The Blue Oval continues to tweak the Lightning, regardless, and that’s also true of the 2025 model year. In fact, Ford Authority has now learned that the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning is losing a key feature – at least, as standard equipment.
The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning lineup will drop its previously-standard eLocking rear axle, as the automaker has opted to include the E-Locker (as it’s otherwise known) as part of the optional Max Trailer Tow Package. For the 2025 model year, the Max Trailer Tow Package is an option across all trims, and includes not only the E-Locker, but also, Hill Decent Control, the trailer brake controller, and an increased max towing capacity of 7,700 pounds versus 5,000 for standard range models.
According to FoMoCo, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning Max Trailer Tow Package gets this higher tow rating thanks to the presence “additional cooling hardware on the battery and electric motors.” It’s unclear how much the Max Trailer Tow Package will cost for 2025, however, as it previously retailed for $2,300 on the XLT trim – though that didn’t include the E-Locker.
Aside from this change, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning lineup has dropped its formerly-standard (on the XLT and up) SecuriCode keypad, instead making it a dealer-installed option, which is the case with a bevy of Blue Oval models these days. Additionally, the 2025 F-150 Lightning will ditch its standard spare tire, replacing it with the Tire Inflator and Seal Kit, though the spare has become an optional upgrade. For the 2024 model year, a spare tire was included as standard equipment across the entire F-150 Lightning lineup.
