As Ford Authority reported back in July 2023, the 2024 Ford Maverick ditched its SecuriCode keypad – which was previously included as standard equipment on the 2023 Maverick XLT and Lariat – though that feature was still available as a dealer-installed option. Since then, a number of other Blue Oval models have followed suit, losing the SecuriCode keypad as standard equipment across various trims and instead giving customers the option to pay extra for a dealer installation. That also remains the case with the refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick, it seems.
The 2025 Ford Maverick will forge ahead with the keyless entry keypad as a dealer-installed option, which costs an extra $195. However, Ford has changed the name of that particular feature, which was formerly known as the SecuriCode Keyless-Entry Keypad for the 2024 model year, as it’s now officially known as the Keyless-Entry Keypad (Wireless) for 2025.
Over the past few years, FoMoCo has been removing the SecuriCode keypad from its factory-built vehicles, which has caused a stir among folks that appreciate that particular feature – whether it be for days at the beach or other times they may not want to necessarily carry their keys around with them. However, it seems as if Ford is keen to instead allow them to do that via the FordPass app, which has remote unlock and locking capability as well.
Regardless, the most recent models to ditch the factory-installed SecuriCode keypad include the 2025 Ford F-150. Though it was included with the pickup’s 2024 model year refresh as standard equipment on the XLT trim and above, the 2025 Ford F-150 dropped that feature entirely, instead making the keypad a dealer-installed option for the XLT, Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Raptor, all at an extra cost of $455. Additionally, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning previously came with the keypad as standard equipment on the XLT and up, but it’s now a dealer-installed option, which is also the case with the refreshed 2205 Ford Explorer, too.

Bad idea on Ford to eliminate this standard option of the keyless entry! I use it quit often and am used to having it as standard equipment! They look like they are trying to suck more money out of us! Terrible idea on the bean counters. Are tires going to be an option next?
You realize you can do the exact same from your phone with the free FordPass app right?
The app needs some sort of wireless service to work. Don’t know about you, but some places I go, service is iffy.
You do understand there are some places you just don’t want to bring botu your keys or your phone. I’ll give you an example? Kayaking. Would always lock both in my Fusion (when I would rent them in my town) so I don’t lose the keys or soak the phone.
Ford is REALLY losing touch with what sells their cars. As a former 23+ year Ford salesperson, this feature sold more cars back in they you would think. I personally use it all the time. Pretty much daily. If my keys are buried in my pocket, I’ll just unlock with the code. I need to run outside, use the code.
And lastly, that keypad stuck on, will eventually need to be replaced, as the batteries are NOT serviceable. It’s a stupid & frankly BAD decision to drop it. Just another bleep up by Farley.
Try using your Ford Pass to open it, when it goes into “DEEP SLEEP” mode. Right, you can’t. Now say you just need something quick out of the Maverick with no keypad, and your key is inside the house with your phone, right, you can’t quickly get it open. So just say you haven’t had a vehicle with the pad. We’ll understand.
So Ford is using the wireless keypads. The car treats those keypads as basically another key fob.
