As Ford Authority recently reported, the newly-opened Ford Amphitheater in the Polaris Pointe development in Colorado Springs, Colorado, – which is programmed and operated by AEG Presents and was developed and built by a company called Venu – has faced its fair share of controversy since it opened mere weeks ago. This is due to 144 noise complaints filed by local residents over just a few days, even though the venue hasn’t reportedly exceeded the decibel limits imposed by the city. Regardless, Ford Amphitheater officials have now agreed to address these complaints.
Officials from the City of Colorado Springs and Venu met just last week to discuss feedback from the surrounding community, as well as potential ways to address noise concerns from residents. During those talks, the two sides came up with a variety of ways that they can move forward without being a major nuisance to those citizens, including the elimination of fireworks (except potentially on Independence Day), increasing the depth of the existing eastern sound wall to reduce decibel levels outside the amphitheater, utilizing data to enhance sound containment measures, and exploring other ways to physically mitigate noise pollution in the area.
“Together, we are committed to addressing the experience of residents who have shared concerns about Ford Amphitheater,” the two sides noted in a joint statement. “Sound reporting and all mitigation requirements following the first three weeks of operation have been confirmed to be in compliance with commitments. Nevertheless, we all recognize the need to try alternative mitigation strategies to address noise. Today we identified short and long-term strategies that aim to reduce unintentional impact on our community. We ask for the community’s patience and grace as additional research is conducted and these actions are developed and applied.”
This news comes on the heels of the launch of a new website – Ford Hurts Families – that aims to tie the automaker itself to these issues, as Ford Authority reported last week. The people behind that particular website are calling on local residents to contact Ford, asking it to “uphold their own policies and brand can restore peace to surrounding communities – and prevent the need for further steps such as demonstrations at Ford dealerships or campaigns to educate prospective Ford customers about the harm to neighbors being funded by Ford purchases.”
