The recent debut of the new Ford (and Lincoln) Digital Experience software has thus far been accompanied by the launch of several new apps designed to work in harmony with that software. This list includes the typical apps one would expect to find from the likes of Amazon, Google, and other established entities, as well as the conferencing and collaboration app called Webex, and Road.Travel, which is designed to make road trips a little more interesting. Now, Ford and Lincoln vehicles are gaining yet another fun option.
That new option is the Stingray Karaoke app, which will launch first in the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Mustang Mach-E, followed by Ford and Lincoln vehicles running the new Digital Experience software. As one might’ve guessed by its name, the Stingray Karaoke allows a vehicle’s occupants to select the song they want to sing, after which the lyrics are displayed on the vehicle’s infotainment screen – at least, while the vehicle is parked.
However, passengers can still use the app when a vehicle is moving, but there is a safety feature that kicks in when that’s the case. With the app launched on the in-vehicle screen, the system will detect if there is a passenger buckled in and sitting in the front seat, and if so, it will display a QR code. The passenger can then scan that code and receive the lyrics on their smartphone rather than the vehicle’s screen, so it isn’t as distracting to the driver. Passengers can also add songs to their playlist, change songs, and use the vehicle’s audio system.
The Stingray App will roll out via a software update, first to eligible F-150 Lightning owners in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe, and then to Mustang Mach-E owners shortly thereafter. At an unspecified later date, the Stingray Karaoke app will also be available in vehicles equipped with the Ford or Lincoln Digital Experience software.
“Our goal at Ford is to continue to improve the ownership experience for customers by delivering experiences like Stingray Karaoke that ultimately bring joy,” said Chet Dhruna, Connect and Engage General Manager, Ford Motor Company. “The Ford and Stingray teams worked closely to bring the app to Ford owners so they can make memories with their friends and family no matter where they are on their journey, and we can’t wait to hear about these stories.”

I had Stingray as a classic rock music supplier on my cable TV service. I will see if I can add the app to my smart Vizio TV and enjoy Stingray again.
