Over the years, Ford has been recognized on numerous occasions for its sustainability efforts, which apply to every aspect of its operations. On top of that, the automaker previously called on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to use funds from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to invest in American-made clean aluminum, and also forged a partnership with Manufacture 2030, an organization that will help the company’s suppliers reduce their carbon emissions. Now, that Ford backed supplier-focused sustainability effort has officially launched.

Along with fellow automakers Honda, Toyota, and General Motors – plus supplier Magna – Ford is part of a group known as the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment (SP), along with energy advisory company Trio. Today, that group announced that its “Transform: Auto” program has arrived, and is aimed at driving the adoption of renewable energy across the automotive supply chain.

This new program aims to reduce Scope 3 supply chain emissions (indirect emissions from the supply chain and use of sold products) in the global automotive industry by providing automotive suppliers with tailored guidance and dedicated expert support to help facilitate the procurement of renewable energy to reduce their Scope 2 emissions (indirect emissions from purchased electricity). Earlier this year, SP announced the expansion of a collaborative effort with Manufacture 2030, gathering together 20,000 supplier manufacturing sites in a more standardized approach to collecting supply chain emissions data.

The Transform: Auto program is available at no cost to Tier 1 suppliers of Ford, GM, Honda, Magna, Toyota, and other SP member companies. The program is custom-tailored to suppliers, no matter where they stand in their efforts to reduce emissions, and will help them explore renewable energy options and give them the tools to do precisely that. In its first year, Transform” Auto aims to help suppliers in areas including voluntary green tariffs, onsite solar, community solar, utility-scale renewable energy power purchase agreements, and environmental attribute certificates.

“Ford is proud to invest in Transform: Auto, which will provide suppliers with tailored guidance and expert support to help them reach carbon-neutrality targets,” said Ford Chief Supply Chain Officer Liz Door. “It’s a testament to Ford’s belief in the power of collaboration to move the automotive industry – OEMs and suppliers alike – toward a more sustainable future.”
