Ford BlueCruise, the automaker’s advanced hands-free driver-assist system, has received several updates since its debut, enhancing its safety and capability. Last summer, Ford rolled out BlueCruise 1.3, adding convenient features like Lane Change Assist. Now, the system is set to become even more advanced with the newly revealed BlueCruise 1.4 update.
BlueCruise 1.4 is headlined by improved hands-free driving abilities, reducing the need for a driver to have their hands on the wheel while the system is active. The inbound upgrades are geared toward helping the vehicle smoothly adjust its speed around curves, providing greater in-lane stability thanks to an all-new motion controller, and enabling longer hands-free engagement in less-than-ideal driving conditions due to inclement weather such as rain or sun glare on vehicle sensors.
In prior iterations of Ford BlueCruise, while approaching a sharp curve, the system might have automatically disengaged, forcing the driver to retake control of the vehicle while cornering. Thanks to the aforementioned updates, The Blue Oval says that BlueCruise users can expect to stay engaged in hands-free driving mode for up to eight times longer than BlueCruise 1.0 supported.
BlueCruise 1.4 will build upon prior updates rather than replacing them. That means that all the updates introduced in the 1.3 update will carry over into the forthcoming upgrade as well, preserving features like Lane Change Assist, Predictive Speed Assist, and In-Lane repositioning.
Ford BlueCruise 1.4 will be available on select 2025 model year vehicles with hands-free driving capabilities, including the 2025 Ford F-150 and 2025 Lincoln Navigator. More vehicles will follow, and a software update will be distributed to select vehicle lines in the future.
Currently, owners of a Ford or Lincoln product in 17 countries can take advantage of BlueCruise functionality thanks to a recent update released in the summer of 2024. Ford CEO Jim Farley says that the technology is extremely profitable, so expect The Blue Oval to continue rolling out continuous improvements to the system. Nearly 500,000 vehicles globally are BlueCruise-capable.

That vehicle either it’s a Lincoln navigator or a expedition, looks like a Dodge Durango in the front grill
The FRONT GRILL Emblem Gives it away……. It’s A LINCOLN, and the wording on the Front Fender / Drivers Side Door. NAVIGATOR.
OK…… Soooooo……. What about ALL the Customers that PAID UP FRONT the $1995.00 Like we did for our 2022 F-150 (BUILD DATE 03/2022). We haven’t even been Updated to 1.2???? I have contacted everyone who’s anyone, in the OTA Group, Customer Support Group, IN Vehicle Technology Team / Group, I was given a CASE # that I have since found out that has been basically “CANCELLED” Out, unbeknownst to me???? And they ALL PLAY DUMB/STUPID to it All. (2 Gentlemen in the Technology Team, Ryan, and Benjamin) were the “ONLY” People that actually knew “Anything” about the Update’s and Roll Outs!!! All of which go to Newer Vehicles, The Mach E & F-150 Lightning, and Select New Build Vehicles. Everyone Else Is CHOPPED LIVER!!! We don’t count, are being Overlooked, and Left on the Back Burner while ALL THE NEW CUSTOMERS receive the Newest Blue Cruise Software in New Build Vehicles. We aren’t being Updated for Lord knows the Reason why???? But, FORD TOOK OUR $1995.00 without so much as Batting an EYE???? What in the Name of the Good Lord above does an Already Paid Up Front Customer have to do???? Phone Calls are MOOT and go Un Attended!
F O R D just don’t care about Current Customers, and that is Totally Not Right!!! Thanks F O R D!
Ford does this with other tech too. I was one of the first with Sync3 and they forgot totally about that once Sync4 hit the streets. With its bugs and all.
2019 was the last map update for my Sync3 in my 2011 Fusion that still rubs great. I would gladly pay for the map update but Ford doesn’t want my money. And they turned off half the Sync3 features after a few years.
If Ford doesn’t want to support the technology I would be happy to just have Ford not include it and I can get an aftermarket head unit with more tech and it’s supported with updates for years.
But if you put the tech in the car then don’t stop supporting it after a couple years.
I have been railing on this for 2 years. I got a 2023 F-150 Platinum with 1.0. Not only had Ford promised updates for 2021 and up units I still have yet to see anything. In fact the only updates I get are updates so my truck update service can be more easily updated. What the hell Ford!??!??!
BC 1.0 is at best a beta and it’s dangerous as well. More often than not I have to grab the wheel so I don’t side swipe a truck or careen off the road when it gets confused.
I hate class action lawsuits but I have never wanted to be a part of one now more than ever.
Fix BC before someone gets killed Ford. Oh wait. Too late.
Yes Job 1 2021 Mach E owners are stuck on 1.0. Except a very small sample of early release testers who have 1.3. Sad story for 2021 owners.
Let’s hope to eventually get these updates, and FORD, go drive a BMW to see how the braking for cars in front of you should work!! I have a ’23 Navigator and ’21 X-7, and the X-7 has a much more normal braking. The Navigator comes up too fast/close before hitting the brakes!!
That’s because Ford is finding out it’s easier to be a software company that makes cars than a car company that develops software.
I don’t want to say that Ford software developers are bad but yes, Ford software developers are really bad.
What about securi code on blue cruise, I never got it, paid for it, where is it, can’t lock doors on freeway, shuts down, goes into limp mode, then reactivates intermittently, scratching my head, afraid to drive.
The BC update is great news for some, and very unfortunate for many of us driving with an older version who are irritated by not getting updated. I bought a $67K Lincoln Corsair GT last December specifically due to the BlueCruise functionality. The Consumer Reports ADAS testing along with several other reviews pushed me towards the Ford/Lincoln brand as opposed to either GM or Lexus. I’m still running version 1.2, which is not terrible but also leaves room for improvement. Lincoln has until December to update my vehicle in order to keep me as a customer. I expect annual updates for software subscriptions I pay for. I really hope that Ford isn’t trying to entice people to buy newer cars by putting the newest software on those vehicles only. If so, I guarantee it will backfire on them, at least with me. I will sell the car and most likely buy a GM with Super Cruise and never buy another Ford product again!
That’s exactly what I thought with my Sync3 in my 2011 Fusion. They stop supporting the platform to entice you to upgrade to a new car.
I am sorry Farley but if you expect customers to upgrade their cars to get software updates you are more stupid than I thought you were. Ironic that your cousin Chris turned out to be the smarter Farley.
Maybe you should see what Elon is doing where Tesla customers get updates all the time and their cars are leaps and bounds more advanced than yours.
My wife’s 23 Mach E got an update this morning. I thought fantastic to I looked at it. If was 1.3. Nothing like Ford saying they were skipping 1.3 and going straight to 1.4 and then only getting 1.3 then.
I think not only does the Blue Cruise team manager need to be fired but fire Farley s well.
What an incompetent bunch of donkeys.
You ment “an incompetent buch of monkeys”.
As a 2023 F-150 owner on Blue Cruise 1.0, I can guarantee Ford that when it comes time to renew my subscription in January 2026, the only way I’d even consider it is if there was a clause in the contract guaranteeing an update to my truck within 30 days of a new release and that there was a guarantee of at least one new release per year, else no fee for that year. I’ve never seen such a totally incompetent IT group, and I was an IT director in another industry before I retired. We delivered on time, on budget, and with zero defects – always. It can be done!
