Ford Crossover Sales Down 10 Percent For 142K Deliveries During Q2 2024

Ford crossover sales – comprised of the Ford Bronco Sport, Ford Edge, Ford Escape, Ford Explorer, and the all-electric Mustang Mach-E – decreased 10 percent to 141,637 units in the United States during the second quarter of 2024.

Only the Mustang Mach-E was in the green, but the Explorer again posted the highest sales volume.

Overall Ford utility sales posted a seven percent decrease to 189,470 units in Q2 2024. Here the Expedition joined the Mustang Mach-E  as the lone models in the green.

Ford crossover sales fell year-over-year to close out the year, with the Mustang Mach-E posting the only positive gain while sales of the Explorer were flat. The rest were in the red.

Sales of the Bronco Sport for Q2 2024 were down 15 percent for 33,272 deliveries for the compact crossover.

The 2024 Ford Bronco Sport ushers in a handful of changes and updates over the 2023 model year, ditching its SecuriCode keyless entry keypad from the lineup and replacing it with a dealer installed option, dropping four exterior colors and replacing them with two others, while losing its windshield wiper de-icer. The 2024 model year also drops the Heritage Limited and entry-level Base trim levels from the lineup, with the Big Bend becoming the lowest-priced, entry-level variant.

Sales of the Ford Edge for Q2 2024 dropped 37 percent to 16,522 units for the discontinued midsize crossover.

The 2024 Ford Edge was completely unchanged for its final year as it gets sent out to pasture, though the future of the nameplate remains unknown outside of China, where a next generation model is currently on sale.

Sales of the Ford Escape for Q2 2024 slipped 13 percent moving 37,943 units for the compact crossover.

Coming off a refresh for the 2023 model year, the 2024 Ford Escape features few changes and updates, including the addition of a new Race Red color and the Active now being the entry level trim as Base becomes a fleet-only trim. Furthermore, the 2024 Escape drops the SecuriCode keyless entry keypad across the board as a factory option, replaced by a dealer installed part, and the factory navigation subscription changes, being reduced from three years to one.

Sales of the Mustang Mach-E for Q2 2024 jumped 46 percent for 12,645 deliveries for the all-electric compact-plus crossover.

For 2024, the first-ever Mustang Mach-E Rally debuts as an off-road-capable EV, looking the part with a unique front fascia, fog lights, a hatch-mounted rear wing, stripes, and a black-painted roof. Meanwhile, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT debuts a new Bronze Appearance Package along with optional bronze wheels, with an example recently spotted in the wild.

Meanwhile, sales of the Explorer for Q2 2024 were flat for 46,338 deliveries. The midsize-plus, three-row crossover accounted for almost a third of all Ford crossover sales and about a quarter of overall utility sales.

The 2025 Ford Explorer debuted in February with new tech and a redesigned interior. It is available in the Active, Platinum, ST-Line, and ST trim levels with a slightly different look on the outside thanks to a few minor styling updates. For 2025, BlueCruise is available on the Explorer for the first time ever, available on Platinum, ST-Line, and ST trims. Additionally, the 2025 Explorer is the first Ford-branded vehicle to get the new Ford Digital Experience software, which was developed in conjunction with Google. It runs on a larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen, which is coupled with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
