The European Ford Explorer EV became the first electric vehicle to ever circumvent the globe following a months-long journey that ended this past March, but that was a pre-production prototype. Then, this past June, the new Explorer EV entered mass production at the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center in Germany, officially giving Europeans another option in that growing segment. Now, that same model is already accumulating awards, it seems.
That accolade is a 2024 Red Dot Design Award, which is one of the largest design competitions in the world and can apply to products, brands, communication projects, prototypes, and design concepts across multiple disciplines. The Red Dot Awards have been around for over 60 years now, and are voted on annually by a jury of design experts. In the latest installment, the Ford Explorer EV received this prestigious honor for a few very good reasons.
“Designed with a futuristic exterior and American style, the new all-electric Ford Explorer offers a seamless digital experience for the European market in the interior to meet the demands of a tech-savvy target group,” Red Dot wrote of its selection. “The fully connected SYNC Move infotainment system with a movable 14.6-inch screen integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and plays music through a soundbar-style speaker. Advanced driver assistance technologies and sporty, heated seats provide comfort. The Ford Explorer convinces with its striking SUV design on the outside and with its high-quality technical equipment on the inside.”
“We have focused on a reduced design language with concise graphic elements that take up and reinterpret design elements of the U.S. icon Ford Explorer,” said Murat Güler, chief designer of the Explorer EV. “The Explorer has the best interior that Ford has ever built in Europe. It combines a modern, purist aesthetic with unprecedented functionality.”

So, do we have a logical replacement for the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilis to be build somewhere in the good old USA ?
When is comrade Farley going to be fired? After billions of dollars in losses last year they’re still building these electric battery powered gimmicks?
What gives?
“billions of dollars in losses last year”
Actual 2023 result: $4.33b in profit
You can make a case for anyone to be fired when you just make up numbers!
Looks like Robo Cop headgear.
It is a good looking vehicle. 👌
Circumvent the globe? I’m sure you meant circumnavigate.
Nope circumvent is perfectly fine in that context but thanks for your feedback.
