Over the years, plenty of folks have rendered or jokingly claimed that a convertible pickup is on the way, though in all fairness, that idea is also premised on actual builds. Along with the ultra-rare Ford SkyRanger, several drop-top pickups have surfaced over the years from third-party companies, though such vehicles haven’t really ever found any sort of foothold in the market – at least, to the point where an automaker might consider mass producing one. Regardless, it’s hard to deny that this Ford F-250 convertible rendering is pretty darn cool.
Conjured up by automotive artist Oscar Vargas, this Ford F-250 convertible rendering takes on new life thanks to some rolling video footage, which shows the truck’s top in operation. In this case, the Super Duty utilizes a retractable hard top in the vein of something like the C8 Corvette convertible, which is divided into multiple sections to cover the cabin of the full-size pickup in this case.
When activated, the front portion of the roof slides under the second-row section, after which both fold flat up against the rear portion of the cab in the bed – behind what looks like a sports bar. The top even goes low enough into the bodywork that rear visibility isn’t hindered at all, leaving the driver to enjoy an open-air driving – er, towing, in this case, experience.

Truthfully, it would very likely be difficult and costly to bring such an idea to life, but it would certainly be attractive to certain buyers, regardless. This is precisely why Ford Authority has explored the idea of convertible pickups twice in the past few years – one, based on the Ford F-150, and another, on the Ford Maverick. It’s highly doubtful Ford will ever give us a convertible pickup of any kind, but one can dream, no?
