Ford F-Series Pickup Beloved By Boomers And Gen X

The Ford F-Series line of pickups has remained America’s favorite for over four decades to this point, topping the sales charts year after year. The F-Series is, without a doubt, one of the more dominant consumer products on the market of any kind, even in spite of efforts by the competition to eat into its significant market share. However, among the many people that own a Ford F-Series pickup, it seems as if two specific generations gravitate toward that model more than the rest.

Those generations are Baby Boomers and Generation X, according to a new study from Insurify, as Generation X touts an ownership rate of 3.16 percent for the Ford F-Series – which has some of the most loyal owners in the industry – while Baby Boomers come in at 3.74 percent – figures that are the highest of any generation. The F-Series is the most popular vehicle among both generations, though it ranks sixth among Millennials and fell outside of the top 10 for Gen Z.

According to Insurify, here are several reasons why this is the case – including the fact that Gen Z prefers smaller and more fuel-efficient vehicles than prior generations. In fact, its favorite model is the Honda Civic, while in terms of Boomers, SUVs or pickup trucks comprise five of the 10 most-driven models, while Gen X comes in at three of the top 10 in those same categories. By comparison, Millennials favorites include just two pickup trucks, and Gen Z’s top 10 features none.

Of course, we must also consider the cost of these vehicles, and in that regard, the Ford F-Series is obviously more expensive, in general, than vehicles like the Civic, as well as pretty much every other vehicle that’s a favorite of the youngest generation, which may not have quite the spending power that its elders do – at least not yet. As Ford Authority previously reported, the average Ford F-150 monthly payment was a whopping $881 as of Q1 2024, which is far more than smaller, more efficient alternatives.
