These days, it’s difficult enough to find a new vehicle that most people would consider affordable, let alone reliable as well. However, the Ford Maverick seems to be hitting both marks thanks to its reasonable (yet growing) price tag, as well as the fact that the compact pickup has landed on a few lists of the most reliable new vehicles on the market, too. Back in December, the Ford Maverick EcoBoost made Consumer Reports‘ list of the most reliable new vehicles priced under $30k, and the consumer organization also listed it as one of the most reliable used pickups this past January. Now, the Ford Maverick is once again being recognized for that very same reason.
The Ford Maverick has now been recognized for its reliability and affordability yet again, this time, on Consumer Reports‘ most reliable new vehicles that cost under $30,000 list, which is comprised of models that have a high overall score from that organization, as well as its members. Each of these vehicles has achieved recommended status, performed well in road testing, and come standard with safety features like automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic warning, and blind spot warning.
The Ford Maverick made the cut on this new list and was actually the only pickup truck to do so, which highlights the lack of affordable (and reliable) options in that segment these days. However, CR limited its selection to the EcoBoost-powered version, which has an overall score of 78. CR notes that the Ford Maverick EcoBoost has plenty of power and can tow up to 4,000 pounds (with the optional 4K Tow Package), but it’s also quite efficient with a combined city/highway rating of 23 miles-per-gallon (per Consumer Report‘s own test data, which is lower than EPA estimates of 26 combined for FWD and 25 combined for AWD models). Other highlights include refined ride quality, secure handling, easy to use controls, and good visibility.
On the downside, Consumer Reports wasn’t as big of a fan of the Maverick’s tendency to send “annoying vibrations” into the cabin during lower speeds, which makes for a noisy interior that’s also rather spartan. The 4.5-foot bed provides some utility, at least, but also may not be quite big enough for some folks.

“Reliable Cars Under $30K”
The Ford Maverick is a reliable TRUCK,not car. I know. I have a 2022 and except for the 4 recalls ( mine’s not a hybrid- too new a technology to risk it. I turned out to be right), mine’s been trouble free.
Please, if you call yourself Ford Authority, use the authority to clear up misconceptions, not perpetuate them. The Maverick IS A TRUCK, not a car
I agree with you 100% the Maverick is a Truck not a car and I own one.
I agree also…..Fine mix , a truck that rides like a car. Best of both worlds.
It’s also one of the few full sized vehicle that cost less than 30k anymore.
The Maverick does not come standard with cross traffic and blind spot monitor. That’s in the optional co-pilot 360 package. Not sure why they don’t like the hybrid, i love mine and it has been reliable.
‘re: black belt, I have a hybrid also and I love it. Very reliable and economical.
