Following its debut for the 2022 model year, the Ford Maverick just received its first mid-cycle refresh, which is set to launch for the 2025 model year. Regardless, given the fact that The Blue Oval tends to follow a pretty regular cadence in terms of rolling out updates to its pickup lineup, we’re already looking forward to the first Ford Maverick redesign. That action was previously rumored for 2027, but a new report indicates that it may come slightly later.
According to Automotive News, the Ford Maverick is now expected to receive its first redesign for 2028, at which time it could expand to become more of a sub-brand in the vein of the Mustang and Bronco. As Ford Authority previously reported, that expansion could include the addition of a small van based on the compact pickup, though it’s unclear if that possible addition will actually wear the Maverick nameplate or be called something different altogether.
In the meantime, the refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick ushers in a host of notable updates for that model, including a somewhat controversial restyled front end. Aside from that change, buyers can now pair the hybrid powertrain with all-wheel drive for the first time, while the Tremor has been officially upgraded from an optional package to a trim level for the new year. Inside the cabin, new colors and materials are present on the door panels, instrument panel, console, and seats, but the big news is the addition of a new, standard 13.2-inch infotainment screen, which is paired with an eight-inch digital instrument cluster.
Then there’s the brand new, street-performance focused Ford Maverick Lobo, which is also joining the lineup for the 2025 model year. The Lobo gets its own unique exterior styling, along with a lowered suspension, unique interior accents, specially-tuned steering, torque vectoring, an upgraded cooling system, and dual-piston front brake calipers borrowed from the Focus ST.

2028 is also the arrival of the EV Skunk works project. Are they connected?
I hope the design team changes the front grill! What a mistake ! Previous model years looked better.
Any design changes on any car truck should be voted on by the people that buy them. Not some hung over designer from the night before. With new redesign expect to pay more but not for quality as Ford is the fix daily anymore.
A two door model with a longer bed, pleeeease.
I own to Mavericks and this is what I’d like to see. practical updates, Fog lights, auto dimming rear view mirror, power passenger seat and a redesign of interior door panels so that I can put my ice scraper and gloves in it and where my coffee mug will fit. Even the free yeti maverick mug that ford sent for having airbag recall done won’t fit.
“…expected to receive its first redesign for 2028…” Redesign, or refried !! What a pitiful design in 2025. The covered led lights completely changes the original premise, to be the little brother of the F150. The ’25 design looks foreign, cheap, impractical, and most of all: UGLEEEE. I’m glad I got my ’22, which is a head turner towards it because of it’s attractiveness, and not a head scratcher of where Ford went way off.
If there’s no PHEV version by 2028, I’m looking elsewhere.
That truck is a really bad design you better have a talk with the design engineer or better yet give him a hand up and send him back to school.
I wish they would stop update designs. The 1973-76 Ford pickups were the best looking of any truck built since the 48-52 models. I liked the 60-62 Falcons, 63-65 got worse. Then 66-69 was good again. Never should have change to 69-77 Maverick. 75-80 Granada was a great style. Fairmont was a good and needed restyle to the Pinto. The 74-78 Mustang was a nice looking car; a bit small but nice looking than any of them since 1968. I bought my first new Mustang, a 2021. It looks nice, but too low to the ground and too difficult to get in out out. Gas mileage on the 4 cylinder is unbelievable low whenever going to a hill. It drops from 32-4mpg ever time it needs to go uphill. Never had a vehicle that b got such poor mileage going uphill. My 76 F250 HD 4×4 360 never dropped below 10mpg and averaged 17 overall after changing the power value in the carburetor to part no. C6AZ-9A565-C which later became D6PZ-9A565-A. Ford could have outsold all their competition if they would have put that same power valve in all their Motorcraft 2150 2bbl carbs.
PHEV
They should put that front end on the F-150’s, I love it, it’s so futuristic! The person who designed it is a pure genius!
