South Africa is one of several global markets where the Ford Ranger is sold, and it’s also built in that same country at the Silverton Assembly plant. As such, Ford already offers an array of Ranger models and variants in South Africa, as one would imagine, though it seems as if that lineup could soon gain yet another – at least, according to a pair of recent trademark filings.
These two trademark filings were recently uncovered by Cars.co.sa, but were originally filed back in December 2021 for both “Bushtrak” and “Ranger Bushtrak.” The trademark filing for Bushtrak was officially registered in September 2023, while Ranger Bushtrak is currently pending registration, but is expected to achieve that status in the coming months. These trademarks haven’t been filed in any other country aside from South Africa as well, meaning that they may very well be reserved for that part of the world.
In addition to applying to trademark Stormtrak (which has been applied to Ford Ranger models in the past), Ford also holds the rights to Wolftrak, Wildtrak, and Wiltrak X, the latter two of which are are currently in the lineup. The Bushtrak filing could signal that the automaker plans to add another off-road-focused variant to the Ranger lineup, however, though it’s currently filled with similar models, in all fairness.
In fact, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak X – which bridges the gap in terms of the off-road capability presented by the Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor – just launched in South Africa back in May 2023 bearing goodies like Bilstein position-sensitive dampers and 265/70 R17 General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tires, while the more luxurious Platinum trim also joined the lineup this past February. Additionally, Ford sells the Everest, a Ranger-based SUV, in South Africa in a variety of trims as well, including Sport, XLT, and Wildtrak, somewhat emulating the Ranger lineup there.
And there are a few changes in store for the heavy-duty hauler.

Oh puhleeze. Just what we need. Guess we know what Jimbo's working on right now. Another useless trim variation of something.
