Each year, the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards are among the most prestigious and notable accolades handed out to any automobile, especially since those selections come from a jury of journalists from across the globe – and aren’t associated with any single publication or organization, making them a bit less biased than some others out there. Over the years, we’ve seen our fair share of Blue Oval models get nominated for an NACTOY award and even win a few, and 2025 is no exception.
As Ford Authority previously reported, the all-new Lincoln Nautilus is one of 10 SUVs/crossovers that were named semi-finalists for 2025 North American Utility of the Year, and it’s been joined by the Ford Ranger, which also made the cut for 2025 North American Truck of the Year. In total, 25 vehicles have been nominated as semi-finalists for this year’s NACTOY awards, but the Ford Ranger is among five trucks in that group vying for top honors in its segment – a list that also includes the GMC Sierra EV, Ram 1500, Rivian R1T, and Toyota Tacoma.
Each year, the NACTOY awards recognize the best new vehicles on the market, based on a variety of factors including innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction, and value. To determine the winners, an independent jury of 50 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada will evaluate each model and provide their own feedback on those areas. Jurors are set to complete this process in October, and they’ll narrow the list down to three finalists in each category on November 21st, 2024, after which the winners will be announced at the Detroit Auto Show on January 10th, 2025.
“We have a great variety of vehicles on the list, from the sporty to the family sedan,” said Jeff Gilbert, NACTOY president and the automotive reporter for WWJ News Radio 950. “This list is an example of the great products that the auto industry is producing, from cutting edge electric vehicles to traditional gasoline powered cars and trucks, but also hybrids, which are a growing share of the market.”
