The Ford Super Duty is well-known for being one of the most capable and toughest vehicles of any sort, and has been for a very long time now. However, one thing the Ford Super Duty can’t do is deflect high caliber rounds, nor protect occupants very well from things like explosive devices – the types of problems that typically only apply to high-ranking politicians and other famous folks that people may want to cause harm to. For them, there is a suitable alternative, however – the Ford Super Duty based Mastiff from Alpine Armoring.
Alpine Armoring actually offers an array of Ford Super Duty Mastiff trucks with various levels of protection, but this example – recently reviewed by YouTuber Doug DeMuro – can withstand fire from a .50 caliber rifle, most notably, thanks to its A12 level armor, along with other high-power rounds such as .30-06, 7.62×51 AP, 5.56×45 AP, and 7.62×39 AP. This range-topping model utilizes a variety of components to make that happen, including certified lightweight ballistic steel, ballistic composite material, and bullet-resistant glass.
If all of that isn’t enough, the Ford Super Duty Mastiff also features cool kit like an anti-sabotage exhaust protection system, an armored fuel tank, undercarriage floor protection, an armored ECM, strobe lights, a PA system, a siren, a night vision camera, and run-flat inserts for the tires. Power comes from the turbocharged 6.7L V8 Power Stroke diesel, which is mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission. In addition to being quite literally bulletproof, the Mastiff is also rather luxurious inside with some custom touches, too.
With all of its added weight, the Mastiff only returned around six miles-per-gallon in this test, but as DeMuro points out, if you can afford to buy one and consider yourself a high value target, you can likely afford to keep it filled up, too. Of course, there are some other alternatives out there that can provide similar protection as well, including some Super Duty-based offerings from DBL Design, a bulletproof Ford Ranger from SVI Engineering, and armored Ford Expedition SUVs currently being used by the U.S. State Department.
