Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for some interesting tailgate attachments that may be used on future Ford pickups, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on March 3rd, 2023, published on September 5th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0295286.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed quite a few patents outlining potential accessories for its future pickups over the years, which makes perfect sense given how incredibly popular those vehicles are these days – as well as how popular it is for owners to modify them. That list includes ideas for things like an accessory attachment system, a different kind of accessory attachment setup, and integrated tailgate step attachments, to name just a few. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going with a new idea for some interesting tailgate attachments that may be used on future Ford pickups, too.
As Ford points out in this patent, pickups are used for all kinds of things these days – not just hauling or towing. Rather, people use their trucks as social gathering spots at tailgates for sporting events, camping, or other times when one might need a variety of accessories including bottle openers – which, in many cases, are built into tailgates already.
In this case, however, the bottle opening attachment would also double as an accessory hanging point, on which one could place bags or other items that they may want to keep nearby or off the ground – or, perhaps just as a way to prevent them from taking up valuable space on a table or the tailgate. It’s a bit different than the bottle opener design present in some modern Ford trucks, as it has a hook built right into it, though the shape of that hook doubles perfectly as a hanging spot. Given how simple and potentially useful this idea is, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it wind up on future Ford pickups at some point.

Really……… What’s “cool” about a bottle opener or a “accessory hanging point”??
🤣🤣🤣 What would really be ‘cool’ would be class-leading quality control, more á la carte options (instead of choosing a package one does not really want) & an availability of a 6ft box with the CC.
Will the bottle opener and hangar be recalled?
