Following the fairly recent debut of the fourth-generation Ford 5.0L V8 Coyote engine, The Blue Oval added a pair of new crate engines to the Ford Performance catalog just this past April – the single throttle body Gen 4X and a regular Gen 4 setup that makes more power, but comes with dual 80mm single bore drive by wire electronic throttle bodies with variable runner control. Now, Ford has also launched a pair of new control packs for the Gen 4X 5.0L V8 Coyote engine, specifically.
These control packs are quite similar, though one is designed to work with the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission, while the other is reserved for models with a manual gearbox. The auto option is listed in the Ford Performance catalog under part number M-6017-M50HA, while the manual transmission application is sold under part number M-6017-M50HM. Both retail for the same $2,650, and both are designed to take the complexity out of wiring a Gen 4X 5.0L Coyote crate engine.
Both kits enable customers to install the Gen 4X Coyote in a 2021 or newer Ford Mustang, specifically. Each kit comes with a PCM with a unique Ford Performance calibration, the Electronic Throttle Pedal that helps eliminate cable routing issues, a unique control pack harness that replaces the stock body harness, an OBD-II port, a power distribution module, air box, air inlet tube, upper and lower radiator hoses, and HEGO sensors.
It is worth noting that installing this new PCM in any production Mustang model will result in a no-start condition, as it is specifically designed to work only with the Gen 4X crate engine. This also means that the pair of control packs won’t function properly with any other Coyote motor, and the manual kit also requires the use of a return style fuel system. However, for those that want to go that route, they’ll certainly make the process of wiring up the new crate engine much easier.
