No. 14 NASCAR Ford Clinches 2024 Playoff Berth At Darlington: Video

Chase Briscoe, driver of the No. 14 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, needed a win to make the 2024 Playoffs, and win he did at Darlington Raceway on September 1st, 2024. Briscoe’s victory on Sunday night not only broke a 73-race winless streak for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), it marked the second of his Cup Series career. The last time he won was at Phoenix in March 2022.

Briscoe took the lead on a restart on Lap 351, shutting out Kyle Larson’s No. 5 Chevy Camaro ZL1 and Kyle Busch’s No. 8 Camaro. Briscoe masterfully held off Busch, who was also in a must-win situation to make the Playoffs, in the closing laps, and sealed the deal with a narrow margin of 0.361 seconds.

Briscoe was moved to tears of joy after the checkered flag fell on his No. 14 NASCAR Ford, acknowledging how important the victory was for SHR, which is shutting down at the end of the season. Briscoe himself will switch to Toyota next year, taking over the No. 19 Toyota TRD Camry after Martin Truex Jr. retires.

“For all 320 [SHR] employees, everybody, to be able to race for a championship in their final year, man, unbelievable,” Briscoe said. “This group, the day that we found out that the team wasn’t going to exist anymore, we went over to the shop floor, we all looked at each other and said, ‘We’re in this till the end. We’re not going to give this up.'”

He added, “We kept saying all week we got one bullet left in the chamber. That bullet hit.”

Meanwhile, Chris Buescher, driver of the No. 17 NASCAR Ford, failed to clinch a spot and will not compete in the 2024 championship, despite finishing sixth at Darlington.

The following drivers will compete in the Round of 16 in the 2024 Playoffs:
