Steeda Reveals New Shifter For Ford Mustang Tremec Models

Steeda is one of the older and more established makers and sellers of performance Ford Mustang parts, having originated back during the Fox Body generation. Not much has changed in the years since, and Steeda has rolled out a bevy of upgrades for the all-new S650 generation 2024 Ford Mustang over the past few months, too. However, Steeda also isn’t done launching new parts and accessories for older pony cars either, as evidenced by the launch of a new shifter and shift knobs for both select S550 and S650 models.

Steeda has officially unveiled its new Tri-Ax Shift Lever for Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, Mach 1, and Dark Horse models equipped with the Tremec TR-3160 transmission, along with a new billet aluminum shift knob that can be had in four different colors – silver, blue, red, and black. Steeda has been busy testing its new shifter on the street and track, and reports that it improves shift feel and reduces throw without adding noise, vibration, or harshness (NVH) to the mix.

The Steeda Tri-Ax shifter for Tremec-equipped pony car is the latest in an existing line of similar products, and is CNC-machined in-house using 1018 steel, which is then nickel-plated to prevent corrosion. The shifter works perfectly with all OEM components such as reverse lockout and the factory shift knob, and reportedly reduces shifter throw by 20 percent for a more direct, crisp feel with no play, largely thanks to its Delrin bushing.

However, Ford Mustang GT350, Mach 1, Dark Horse, and other pony car owners can also upgrade the look and feel of their shift knob via one of Steeda’s new color options, or they can opt for one in raw aluminum as well. Either way, these shift knobs are lightweight and also compatible with reverse lockout and factory shifters, thanks to the 12×1.25mm thread pitch that enables it to fit the MT-82 and TR-3160 manual transmissions present in S550 and S650 Mustangs.

The is just the latest fruit to come from Steeda’s own developmental efforts, as the outfit just purchased its very own Dark Horse for those purposes this past May. Prior to that, Steeda had already offered customers a bevy of S550-generation Ford Mustang parts to choose from, but along with this new goods, it also offers an array of S650 upgrades including ProFlow air filters, cold-air intakes, a GT500 style rear spoiler, and a set of spherical bearings for the rear lower control arms.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
