Lee Holdsworth will join Chaz Mostert as co-driver of the No. 25 Supercars Ford Mustang GT for the upcoming Sandown 500, one of the most iconic endurance races on the circuit. Holdsworth understands how vital another win would be as Mostert is locked in an intense battle for the points lead, and he’s going to do everything he can to help Mostert seal the deal.
According to a report from Supercars.com, Mostert is still just 81 points back from Will Brown, driver of the No. 88 Chevy Camaro, who currently leads the points. That represents the thinnest margin between the two frontrunners heading into the enduro races, and the closest that Mostert himself has been to the leader. Every point matters, and Holdsworth is feeling the pressure.
“Obviously Chaz is in a position where he can definitely fight for this championship, and he is at the moment and it’s fantastic to see,” Holdsworth told Supercars.com. “And hopefully I can help him out with that. I feel like the car and the team has all the ingredients to win this championship this year.”
Mostert and Holdsworth have shared a seat in a Supercars Ford race car before. Their partnership produced a win at Bathurst in 2021. Not only does the duo have chemistry on-track, they share a close relationship off-track.
“I think you get the best the best out of each other when you’re having fun and we enjoy ourselves,” Holdsworth said. “We muck around, but once the helmet goes on, we take it pretty seriously. We both like the same car; the way the car handles, the way it drives. All the characteristics of the car, we want the same. So that goes a long way.”
Mostert is also looking forward to working with his good buddy again at Sandown and beyond.
“I’ve got the combination of Holdsy again this year, which is fantastic,” he said. “It’s kind of our grand final-esque couple of rounds coming up, but then you’ve still got the championship to run for, for the whole year as well.”
