Supercars Ford Teams Want To End Five-Year Enduro Drought

The last time a Ford racer won an “enduro” race was way back in 2019, when Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat crossed the line first in a controversial finish at the famous Bathurst 1000. Since then, the series has hosted seven endurance events, with every victory claimed by either a Holden or a Chevrolet, but the Supercars Ford drivers are determined to put an end to their rivals’ enduro reign this season.

According to a report from Supercars.com, the current enduro drought is the longest for Ford, although it’s not the first. The Blue Oval went winless in the enduro season between the 2009 Philip Island 500 and the 2011 Gold Coast 600. That streak was broken by Mark Winterbottom and Richard Lyons in the second leg of the event.

Since the 2009 season, Supercars Ford teams have only won 11 of the 46 enduro races, compliments of Tickford Racing and Dick Johnson Racing (DJR). This year, though, things are looking up for Ford, thanks to several stellar driver/codriver partnerships. Take Chaz Mostert – he’ll split his No. 25 Ford Mustang GT with Lee Holdsworth, a seasoned veteran in the series.

“Obviously Chaz is in a position where he can definitely fight for this championship, and he is at the moment and it’s fantastic to see, and hopefully I can help him out with that,” Holdsworth said.

Cam Waters, meanwhile, will share the wheel of his No. 6 Mustang GT with James Moffat, and is confident their pairing will produce results.

“Teaming up with Moff again is awesome,” Waters said. “We had a lot of bad luck last year at the enduros, so hopefully we’ve put that behind and can have a bit of good luck this year.”

Other promising Supercars Ford partnerships include Matt Payne and Garth Tander; Will Davison and Kai Allen; along with Anton De Pasquale and Tony D’Alberto.

The Sandown 500 is scheduled from September 13th through 15th, 2024.
