Over its 60 years of existence, the Ford Mustang has been offered in many different special editions and variants. That includes more than one pace car model, which were typically sold in small quantities and designed to pay tribute to a pretty notable honor that not many different vehicles can lay claim to. During the SN95 generation, the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Pace Car was one of those offerings, and now, this very nice example is up for grabs, too.
This 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Pace Car is up for auction right now at Bring a Trailer with a mere 118 miles on the clock, and as one might expect knowing that piece of information, it’s in stellar condition as a result. Like many pace cars that have existed over the years, the person who purchased this one new wound up storing it and not really using it much over the years, all with the hope of cashing in at a later date. Now, that very well could be the case, especially since this is number 248 of 1,000 examples built to commemorate the pony car’s selection as the official pace car for the 1994 Indianapolis 500.
Like all 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Pace Cars, this one is finished in Rio Red Tinted Clearcoat with a Saddle soft top and the Indy 500 Pace Car Replica Package, coupled with a Saddle leather interior. Only minor blemishes are present in either place, with the cabin touting embroidered Indy-500 winged tire logos, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual front airbags, a cassette stereo, a CD player, and air conditioning. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 302 cubic-inch V8, which in this guise was factory-rated to produce 240 horsepower and 285 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a T5OD five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok limited-slip differential.
As one might imagine, this isn’t the first super low-mile 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Pace Car we’ve seen in recent times, either. Rather, it’s just the latest we can add to the list, one that already includes a 245-mile example, as well as another with just 706 miles.
