Over the course of history, more than one person has converted a car or SUV into a truck – we’ve seen this happen many times over the years, in fact, with beds being added to everything from sedans to sports cars. In fact, just a few years ago, we spotted a Ford Escape that had been transformed into a more utilitarian hauler, as well as a 1994 Ford Taurus SHO sporting a flareside bed from a previous-gen Ford Ranger. Now, that same bizarre yet surprisingly well-done Ford Taurus SHO pickup has surfaced for sale once again, roughly five years after we last saw it.
This wild yet fairly cool 1994 Ford Taurus SHO pickup is back up for grabs via Facebook Marketplace, as first noticed by The Autopian, who also managed to nab some additional details on the clever build. Currently up for sale in Kansas for a reasonable $6,500, it’s essentially what one may think – a second-generation Ford Taurus SHO that’s been chopped in half and mated with the bed from a Ford Ranger that was built before the pickup resurfaced as a mid-size model in 2019. That means it’s still packing the original Yamaha-developed 3.0L V6 making 220 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
From the B-pillar back, this former high-performance sedan is all Ranger, however, and for the most part, that combination works. At least from the front three quarters angle, it looks like it belongs, and possibly could have left the factory like this. However, when viewed from other angles, we can see that bed is a bit narrower than the body – and where the two meet isn’t exactly the most elegantly-executed work, but it also isn’t quite as horrible as some other botched pickup conversions we’ve seen previously.
Not much else is known about this build, given the fact that the seller isn’t the one who put it together, but underneath, it seems as if the rear portion of the Ranger’s frame was mated to the unibody structure of the Taurus. Otherwise, this is still a front-wheel drive machine with a regular old stock Ford Taurus SHO interior, and clearly, it’s put together well enough that it has survived quite a few years to this point. We first saw it surface for sale at auction back in 2016, in fact, and it was sold again just a few years later, in 2019. Now, this unique concoction is looking for another home, and we don’t doubt that someone will be willing to plunk down a few grand simply to have one of the strangest builds out there.
