The Ford Explorer has long been credited with ushering in the modern age of SUVs, models that are designed more for hauling the entire family in comfort rather than being used to do truck things like tow heavy loads. As such, the first- and second-generation Ford Explorer have started becoming more collectible, and we’ve seen numerous low-mile examples surface for sale at collector car auctions recently. That list is now expanding yet again, this time, to include a very nice 2001 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer SUV, too.
This 2001 Ford Explorer features the luxurious Eddie Bauer trim and is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with a very reasonable 56k miles on the clock, and it’s finished in the desirable combo of Tropic Green Clearcoat Metallic with beige accents. The SUV remains in largely stock condition and is also basically flaw-free, as there are none listed in the auction description – and no obvious issues can be spotted in the provided pics.
The same goes for the Medium Prairie Tan interior, which features leather upholstery with amenities such as automatic climate control, cruise control, a trip computer, and an aftermarket BOSS Audio touchscreen stereo, along with power windows, door locks, and mirrors. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 4.0L V6, which in this guise was originally rated to produce 205 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels.
This is just one of several Ford Explorer models from this particular era that we’ve seen hit the auction block as of late, each in stellar condition with few miles on the clock. That list includes a 1995 Explorer Sport with 23k miles, a 1999 with 53k miles, and a 2000 Limited with 62k miles.
