Though they certainly aren’t that old by most accounts, Ford F-150 pickups from the late 1990s and early 2000s have steadily grown in terms of collector interest as of late, which could be partly spurred by their lack of over-the-top tech and inherent simplicity compared to newer models. Whatever the reason, Ford F-150 pickups from this era are also still quite bit cheaper to purchase than new examples, which doesn’t hurt, either. Now, those that have been eyeballing a Ford F-150 from this particular era have another nice one to bid on, too.
That nice example is this 2001 Ford F-150 XL, which is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer with a reasonable 43k miles on the clock. The regular cab, long bed model spent most of its life in West Virginia prior to its acquisition by the selling dealer earlier this year, but looks no worse for wear, inside or out. Rather, its Toreador Red Metallic exterior shows only a couple of flaws, including a small ding in the front bumper and various blemishes on the front grille and fascia.
Given that this is a basic, entry-level, XL-trimmed work truck, it doesn’t have too many luxuries inside the cabin, either – just a Dark Graphite cloth bench seat, black rubber flooring, air conditioning, the PowerStop trailer brake controller, manual crank windows, and a cassette stereo. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 4.2L V6, which in this guise was factory-rated to send 202 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission.
This 2001 Ford F-150 XL is just the latest of many well-kept tenth generation models that we’ve come across in recent months, and that list continues to grow. Most recently, we stumbled across a supremely nice, 27k-mile 2000 Ford F-150 Flareside, as well as a 2001 XLT with 40k miles.
