Following its debut as a Corvette-rivaling two-seat sports car in 1955, the Ford Thunderbird went on to exist for ten generations before bowing out after the 1997 model year. However, some years later – in 2002 – the Ford Thunderbird made a triumphant comeback in that same sort of configuration, with decidedly retro styling, to boot. The eleventh-generation T-Bird didn’t hang around for long, but today, we’re seeing more and more of them pop up for sale at auction and rake in solid money. Now, we can add this low-mile 2002 Ford Thunderbird to that list.
This 2002 Ford Thunderbird is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 11k miles on the clock, and as one might imagine, that means there aren’t really any flaws to note on the outside. Rather, this car’s Whisper White paint looks to be in pristine condition, with not a single blemish noted on it, its matching hardtop, or 17-inch chrome wheels. The same goes for the black and Torch Red interior, which looks basically like it just rolled off the assembly line – notable, given the fact that this T-Bird is over two decades old at this point.
There are a host of amenities inside the cabin, including power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, an AM/FM stereo with an in-dash CD changer, and the optional Full Interior Color Accent Package, which added the Torch Red accents to the interior. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.9L V8, which was factory-rated to produce 252 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.
Given how cool it was when it debuted years ago, the last-generation Ford Thunderbird has understandably become a bit of a collector’s item as of late. Recently, we’ve seen a host of low-mile examples surface for sale, a list that includes a 2002 model with just 54 miles, another 2002 with 17k miles, and a 2005 T-Bird with only around 1k miles on the clock.
