2021 Ford Escape Among CR’s Most Popular Used Cars Of Fall 2024

Over the years, the Ford Escape has received its fair share of praise and criticism from the likes of Consumer Reports, with results that vary greatly depending on which model year we’re looking at. The 2021 Ford Escape, specifically, has been highlighted as a model to avoid by the consumer organization, though that hasn’t done much to diminish the crossover’s popularity with shoppers. That was true once again in the latest edition of the Consumer Reports most popular used vehicles list for the fall of 2024, too.

CR comes up with this particular list by looking at which used model pages visitors to its site visit the most, or are the most searched for by those same visitors. It then narrows down that list to vehicles that are three years old, since this is typically the sweet spot for used models given the fact that they typically have lower miles, and were more likely to have been maintained and cared for properly since this is when most lease turn-ins occur as well.

This time around, the 2021 Ford Escape ranked as the third most popular used vehicle for the fall, behind only the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. However, the 2021 Ford Escape hasn’t exactly been at the top of CR‘s list, as the organization notes that it “lacks the fundamentals to compete with the best small SUVs,” with complaints revolving around the performance of Ford’s 1.5L EcoBoost powerplant, which has plenty of power and returned a good 26 miles-per-gallon overall but is plagued by “an annoying vibration at low engine speeds.”

A stiffer ride and sensitive brakes, flat and uncomfortable seats, and below-average predicted reliability round out CR‘s list of complaints when it comes to the 2021 Ford Escape, which has landed on the company’s list of vehicles to avoid on more than one occasion. Regardless, this also isn’t the first time the 2021 Escape has landed on the most popular used vehicles list either, highlighting a difference of opinion between Consumer Reports and used vehicle shoppers.
