Though it has faced its fair share of recalls since launching for the 2022 model year, the Ford Maverick isn’t immune to other issues that don’t quite necessitate a full-blown recall. Rather, technical service bulletins (TSBs) are generally utilized to address those types of common issues, and that’s also true of one pertaining to a problem with rattling when certain Ford Maverick pickups navigate rough roads.
This TSB – 24-2317 – specifically targets 2022-2024 Ford Maverick pickups with two-wheel drive, as some of those models may exhibit a rattling noise from the instrument panel, near the base of the windshield, when traveling over rough or uneven roads. The cause of this problem stems from excessive movement of the instrument panel, it seems, and can be rectified rather easily.
To fix this problem, Ford is instructing dealers to follow a service procedure that has them install a urethane foam block on both sides of the instrument panel, which helps prevent it from moving around when driving on rough roads. The foam blocks are available in a set of two under service part number RZ6Z-7840380-A, though if that doesn’t do the trick, dealers can also snag part number 164-R4902, which contains two rotunda urethane strips.
In terms of warranty coverage, this particular repair is covered under provisions of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (NVLW), Service Part Warranty (SPW), Service Part New Vehicle (SPNV), Extended Service Plan (ESP) coverage. Installing the foam blocks is rather simple too, requiring dealers to remove the steering column shrouds and glove compartment, which grants them access to the surrounding area of the instrument panel. From there, dealers can simply install the foam pieces between the forward edge of the instrument panel and the windshield on the right side of the vehicle through the glove box compartment opening, and into the gap between the instrument panel and the windshield.
