2025 Chevy Silverado EV Is Updated Ford F-150 Lighting Foe

Following the debut of the Ford F-150 Lightning for the 2022 model year, a bevy of manufacturers announced that they were working on EV pickups of their own, a list that included a pair of General Motors twins – the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. Since then, the EV pickup market in general has cooled somewhat – along with the all-electric vehicle segment in general – but regardless, the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV has received a few updates for the new model year.

According to GM Authority, the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV lineup has added the new LT trim, which is positioned in the lineup in between the entry-level, commercial-focused Work Truck (WT) and the range-topping RST, giving customers more of a middle ground in terms of features and pricing. The 2025 Chevy Silverado EV LT starts out at $75,195 and is eligible for the federal clean energy tax credit, touting an estimated range of 408 miles. Those that want a few more luxuries can opt for the LT Premium Package, which starts out at $81,995 but nets a slightly reduced range figure of 390 miles. Both models tout 300 kW DC fast charging capability, too.

In terms of motivation, the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV LT utilizes a pair of electric motors churning out a peak 645 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque (with Wide Open Watts mode activated), with a max payload capacity of 1,800 pounds and towing capability of up to 12,500 pounds. Inside the cabin, one will find an 11-inch driver information center, paired with a 17.7-inch infotainment screen.

As for the Silverado EV’s rival – the Ford F-150 Lightning – production of that model is slated to begin at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center on November 12th, 2024, though as always, that date is subject to change. Regardless, the F-150 Lightning is getting a few updates including an NACS adapter as an option, while the Flash now comes with ActiveX seating as standard, rather than the cloth seats that were included for the 2024 model year. Additionally, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning lineup will drop its previously-standard eLocking rear axle, which is now part of the optional Max Trailer Tow Package, and the Interior Work Surface feature for the XLT and Flash trims has been deleted, though it’s still standard on the Lariat and Platinum.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning lineup has also dropped its formerly-standard (on the XLT and up) SecuriCode keypad, instead making it a dealer-installed option, which is the case with several Blue Oval models these days. Additionally, the 2025 F-150 Lightning will ditch its standard spare tire, replacing it with the Tire Inflator and Seal Kit, though the spare has become an optional upgrade. For the 2024 model year, a spare tire was included as standard equipment across the entire F-150 Lightning lineup. As for when we might see the first redesign for the F-150 Lightning, that action was recently pushed back to 2027, as Ford Authority previously reported.

  1. And both are completely irrelevant at this point. Spending more time on tiny sales, both of them.

  2. Silverado leaves the F150 lightning in the dust. Even the pricing is better.
