The 2025 Ford E-Transit just debuted last week, bearing a host of updates for the new model year. Though it hasn’t yet received any sort of mid-cycle refresh, the E-Transit has been treated to quite a few improvements since it originally launched in 2022, including several as part of the 2024 model year changeover. However, one thing that wasn’t mentioned in the reveal of the 2025 Ford E-Transit is the fact that the EV van is no longer available with the standard range battery pack.
According to The Blue Oval, the standard range, 68 kWh battery pack – which was previously reserved for fleet customers in 2024 – is not available in the 2025 Ford E-Transit. In the prior model year, the standard range battery was available on Cargo Van, Cutaway, and Chassis Cab models, but now, only the extended range 89 kWh battery is available for all 2025 Ford E-Transit customers and configurations.
This is particularly notable as the extended range battery that debuted in the 2024 E-Transit was all-new at the time, and compared to the smaller 68 kWh unit, improved range from 126 miles up to 159 miles in top spec, which represents an increase of 26 percent for low-roof and 32 percent for high-roof models. Additionally, while output remained unchanged at 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, the 2024 Ford E-Transit also got faster charging speeds thanks to the presence of new, dual onboard chargers that provide peak speeds of up to 176 kW. That means that the EV van can add up to 67 miles of range in low-roof cargo van configuration in 15 minutes, which is 49 percent quicker than the outgoing model.
That model just began shipping to customers early last month, but it will soon be replaced by the 2025 Ford E-Transit, which has a rather large number of new packages and upfitter kits to offer customers, all of which feature a variety of components from Ranger Design and are designed specifically for different industries.

I’d guess most people weren’t satisfied with 126 miles of range, plus battery prices have dropped. So Ford figured making few 68K batteries wasn’t worth it.
