2025 Ford Taurus Officially Debuts With New Hybrid Engine

The Ford Taurus was discontinued in the U.S. back in March of 2019 after roughly eight million were built over 34 years of mostly continuous production, marking the end of an era. However, the Taurus name lives on in China, where that model rides on the Ford CD4 Platform, as well as the Middle East, where it has been that region’s best-selling nameplate for quite a few years now. An all-new version of the Taurus debuted in the Middle East as a rebadged (albeit tweaked somewhat) version of China’s Mondeo in April 2022, and now, the 2025 Ford Taurus set to be sold in that same region has also been unveiled with some new features.

The biggest change present in the 2025 Ford Taurus is its new hybrid powertrain, which is based on the automaker’s 1.5L gas engine. It isn’t clear if this is the three- or four-cylinder version of Ford’s 1.5, but the I-3 is used in North American vehicles like the Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport, and if that’s also the case here, this is the first time we’re seeing that engine paired with hybrid components. Regardless, that update makes the 2025 Ford Taurus the first hybrid sedan FoMoCo has sold in the region. On its own, the electric motor in the hybrid model churns out 48KW (64 horsepower) for a combined net output of 138KW (185 horsepower).

Those that prefer to stick with a regular gas engine can still pair the 2025 Ford Taurus with the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost, which is rated to produce 239 horsepower and 382 Nm (282 pound-feet) of torque, too. Otherwise, the 2025 Ford Taurus is nicely equipped no matter which guise one chooses, touting a 13.2-inch center touchscreen running SYNC 4 inside the cabin, which is paired with an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, and a wireless charger is available as an option, too.

“The 2025 Taurus brings hybrid technology to one of the region’s favorite sedans, giving drivers more efficient performance than ever before seen in this nameplate,” said Sreejith Govind, Brand Marketing Specialist, Ford Middle East. “With the Hybrid Taurus available across all three trims of this sedan, we’re proud to be offering customers the highest efficiency advantage without compromising important vehicle attributes.”

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  3. Crazy to not offer this in the US, UNLESS it’s a lot larger than the last Fusion. Sedan lovers don’t really go for full-size sedans any more.

  4. Farley says Americans need to embrace smaller vehicles. Then Ford makes a smaller vehicle (this sedan) but does not offer it in the USA. I hope they do sell it in the USA one day. It is a good looking vehicle. If Farley wants a “passion” product, he can have a screaming fast shooting brake or wagon variant built for fun.

    1. Farley is very inept at his job he’s completely tone deaf. First he Edge, now a potentially great hybrid offered only on China

    2. No smaller car for me ! Tall people want space .
One of the reasons trucks , and SUVS I personally loath as passenger vehicles, especially Crossovers; are popular is because of size reduction in cars .

  5. Wish they would do some market research here and see if there is a good business case for bringing this to the US. Even if made in China on (presumably) the same line as the international versions.

  6. Wish the Taurus Hybrid would be offered in the U. S. A.
I am looking for a Hybrid sedan and was hoping to trade in by ‘18 Escape as I am a life long Ford guy. I probably will consider the new Sonata Hybrid. Please reconsider!!

  8. I have been a Ford owner since the 60’s – F-150, T-Bird, Explorer, Fairline 500xl. Now own an F-150 and my second Edge. After dropping the production of the Edge, Ford has nothing to interest me in a SUV or sedan. My replacement for my current vehicles will not be Ford – UNFORTUNATELY!

  10. I’m a card carrying 5.0 mustang driver, daily commute. Driven Ford since 1976. An aside, my 5.0 gets 20.8 mpg, my wife’s Corsair gets 23.4. All that tech for 3 mpg? Anyhow…Ford should create a Mustang line (think Fusion with 3 inch longer wheelbase – hey Porsche has a 4dr and their best seller is a SUV). Farley gets his no boring cars – we get a hybrid 2.0 4cyc turbo). Call it Taurus in sport wagon, and sedan. Mach E gets 1.5 hybrid as SUV sedan. And the 5.0 coupe and convertible still the fold. Worked for RAM. Would be what should have been done with the T Bird line in 1958, instead of the Edsel debacle. By the by, that works, create T Bird line on same structure with 3 lines wheelbase difference to sell along side Lincoln. Ford, when are you going to lobby ( the way Detroit lobbied for dual headlights in 1956/7) to do away with side view mirrors, cameras at a pillar position in the vehicle and increase the interior by 4 inches. PS AWD optional on all models. Bring back the keyless entry door pad. Ford missed the opportunity to make the RIP Flex style across each wheelbase from Mini to Range Rover type. Why didn’t Ford invest in
Lincoln line and did an update to have put the Nautilus front, rear fascia, door handles and dash with Google tech on the Corsair, and Aviator for 2025 (coming on the 2025 Nav. ). Lincoln always late to the show. Lincoln would rise to its past pre WWll glory if suicide doors and the 5.0 across the Lincoln line. And a Shelby brand high performance version. Then you can use celebs with the tag line on the picture of George Clooney and wife ( like Gary Cooper Clark Gable Duesy advs) ‘just ask the person who drives one’ . Yes, like the Packard tag line..

  13. I stopped by a Ford dealership , it’s an infuriating , absurd place, just as the rest of the long gone big three.
The dumbest thing is a Mustang Crossover .
Who ever thought of that is a chuckleheaded simpleton.
Why diminish the Mustang as a sports – muscle car with that ?
The Taurus needs to be in the United States, and a Thunderbird.: The later the perfect name for EV , or hybrid .
With the economies of scale, Ford , and the rest can make passenger cars .
The last few years of them peddling only trucks, Crossovers ( ugh ) , and SUVs has been the absolutely most insane thing ever in the history of automobiles.
They assume , everyone will be a follower , and go along.
No they won’t, and everyone I met ready to trade are going to VW , Toyota, Honda , Hyundai, in the medium priced market .

  14. ford , get back into the automobile business. build some cars before it is too late and you are not on the shopping list. You could lose the American market that other foreign auto makers want.
