Aftermarket Ford Escape Ball Joints Recalled Over Defect

Tenneco Automotive (DRiV) is recalling select aftermarket ball joints for 2013-2019 Ford Escape models over a defect it found in those parts.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the ball joints may separate between the mounting flange and socket due to inadequate heat treating.

The hazards: ball joint separation may cause a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.

Components: ball joints

Affected vehicles: ball joints made by Tenneco Automotive with MOOG part numbers K500346, K500347, as well as NAPA part numbers 2601878 and 2601879.

Number of vehicles affected: 21,664

The fix: dealers will replace the defective ball joints, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Tenneco Automotive, which will begin being mailed out on October 21st, 2024. The NHTSA reference number for this recall is 24E-079.
