Ford Expedition Refresh In 2028 Could Include Hybrid: Report

Following the recent debut of the redesigned 2025 Lincoln Navigator, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the unveiling of its mass market counterpart – the 2025 Ford Expedition. Over the past several months, Ford Authority has spotted a number of 2025 Ford Expedition prototypes in various stages of disguise, with more recent sightings including a few that weren’t wearing much camo at all. Thus, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the latest Ford Expedition refresh, though that may not include the addition of a hybrid powertrain – at least, not yet.

According to a recent report from Automotive News, the Ford Expedition “could add” a hybrid powertrain option in the future, but not until its next refresh, which is planned for 2028. This news isn’t terribly surprising given the fact that the 2025 Navigator debuted without an electrified option as well, but both have been expected to gain that type of powertrain for a pretty long time now. Regardless, even if customers have to wait until 2028 to see a hybrid Ford Expedition, that will still meet The Blue Oval’s goal of offering hybrid in every ICE (Ford Blue) model in its lineup by 2030.

2025 Ford Expedition interior, first row

Teased just last week ahead of its official debut this coming Thursday, the refreshed 2025 Ford Expedition is slated to undergo some notable changes in other areas, at least. For starters, the Timberline nameplate is seemingly on its way out, and will be replaced with Tremor variants of both the Ford Explorer and Ford Expedition, the latter of which we’ve already seen, courtesy of a prototype sighting in late August. That model will sport its own unique touches including Tremor Orange accents and all-terrain tires, though it’s currently unclear what sort of mechanical upgrades will be present.

The entire 2025 Ford Expedition lineup will be receiving an updated look up front and in the rear, with a split liftgate possibly debuting out back – just like the Navigator. Along with unique styling features for certain trim levels – including the King Ranch – the 2025 Ford Expedition is also slated to get a revamped interior, too. Those updates include a new screen mounted atop the dash, along with a smaller (potentially 13.2-inch) unit in the center, which appears to be running the new Ford Digital Experience software. The steering wheel also sports a fresh look, while certain aspects – like the drive mode dial and other controls – have been shifted around as well.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
