Ford Maverick Named 2025 Commercial Green Truck of the Year

Shortly after its launch in 2021 for the 2022 model year, the Ford Maverick wasn’t just a hot commodity among shoppers, but also, critics. The compact pickup has since racked up a slew of accolades, including being named the 2022 Green Truck of the Year by Green Car Journal, an honor it received thanks to its stellar fuel economy ratings in both hybrid and non-electrified guise. Now, shortly after the 2025 Ford Maverick ushered in the model’s very first refresh, the same pickup has secured yet another “green” award in a different segment.

This time around, the Ford Maverick has been awarded 2025 Commercial Green Truck of the Year from Green Car Journal, joining the Volkswagen ID. Buzz as the 2025 Green Van of the Year, the Fiat 500e, which won 2025 Urban Green Car of the Year, the Toyota Camry as 2025 Green Car of the Year, the Volvo EX90 as 2025 Luxury Green Car of the Year, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV as 2025 Family Green Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Equinox EV as 2025 Green SUV of the Year, the Chevrolet BrightDrop as the 2025 Commercial Green Car of the Year, and the Dodge Charger Daytona, which was named 2025 Performance Green Car of the Year.

“The Ford Maverick compact pickup makes for a compelling work truck with its hybrid efficiency, reasonable price of entry, and welcome truck functionality,” Green Car Journal wrote of its selection. The Maverick wound up beating out a handful of other finalists for 2025 Commercial Green Truck of the Year, including the Bollinger B4, Chevrolet Silverado EV WT, Ford F-150 Lightning Pro, and Isuzu NRR EV.

Over the past 20 years, Green Car Journal’s Green Car Awards have been honoring new vehicle models that it believes champion greater efficiency and environmental achievement while delivering the features, functionality, and value desired by new car buyers, according to the publication.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

    1. 1st place ugly – 2025 Silverado HD and 2nd ugly place – 2025 RAM HD are not Green Car Journal worthy. Maybe read the article before commenting troll

  2. Agree with the article. We Maverick owners most agree that this poor redesign makes it the Ugliest truck of the year!!! The poor truck is so ashamed of the insect face they put on that it covers its eye. They should fire whoever came up with this design and who approved it.
Ford is loosing its leadership with desperate desin move. It looks foreign, not like the initial premise of the F150 s little brother. I’m glad i got my ’22 Mav before Ford caved in to the new gen visionless designers.
