Ford Mustang RTR Wins 2024 Formula Drift Championship

Vaughn Gittin Jr. – Ford and Formula Drift/Ultra4 racer and purveyor of RTR Vehicles – was quite involved with the development of the 2024 Ford Mustang, helping The Blue Oval create the pony car’s new electronic drift brake. On top of that, Gittin Jr. also created the new Ford Mustang RTR drifter set to continue the team’s efforts in Formula Drift competition this past season, following a successful run in 2023, when RTR brought home a championship with driver Chelsea DeNofa behind the wheel. Now, the Ford Mustang RTR has pulled off a repeat.

2024 Formula Drift champion James Deane.

This time around, driver James Deane claimed the overall 2024 Formula Drift Championship in his No. 120 Autozone Ford Mustang RTR and took the top step in the last round of Formula Drift for the season – marking not only back-to-back victories for RTR, but also, the fourth overall team championship behind Gittin Jr’s 2010 and 2020 wins. Deane managed to bring home RTR’s latest trophy after racking up three wins, a second place finish, and a third spot to start the season, giving him an overwhelming lead to help close things out. With this victory, Ford has also claimed the title of winningest manufacturer in Formula Drift history.

“Such a huge dream of mine coming true to win a Formula Drift Championship in my second season with RTR,” Deane said. “So proud of what we all achieved as a team in winning my first championship in a Ford Mustang and fourth overall and fourth overall for Ford. I could not have done this without the incredible support of my team and partners.”

“I am just so amazed by the dominance James has shown from behind the wheel of his Mustang RTR and the entire RTR Vehicles’ Drift Team’s tenacity,” said Gittin Jr. “James has been so determined and his consistency and excitement in the driver’s seat has been on another level. Winning a championship in Formula Drift is no easy feat and RTR making it happen consecutively is nothing short of epic. This did not come easy for us despite how it may have looked from the outside results. I am so grateful to have the amazing partners that support us and the very passionate and talented team supporting our program on all fronts.”

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
