Back in February, the all-electric Ford Puma Gen-E was officially announced as part of the lineup’s broader refresh, confirming what rumors had suggested for years prior – not to mention the fact that Ford Authority spied a prototype Puma EV out testing for the first time last November. However, with FoMoCo’s EV plans changing considerably in recent months – and certain models being delayed and others canceled altogether – it was fair to wonder if the Ford Puma Gen-E was still in the works. Now, according to a new report, that’s been confirmed, and that model is set to debut soon, too.
According to Automotive News Europe, the Ford Puma Gen-E is slated to arrive very soon, in fact – November – which means that we’re only weeks away from seeing the all-electric crossover in the flesh. To date, Ford hasn’t shared any details regarding what we can expect from the Puma Gen-E, though it will ride on the same platform as the E-Transit Courier, which is also quite new itself.
The new E-Transit Courier is powered by a single, front-mounted 134 horsepower electric motor and supports DC fast charging speeds up to up to 100 kW, which could wind up powering the Puma EV, too. The Ford Puma Gen-E will also be built alongside the E-Transit Courier at the Craiova Assembly plant in Romania, where the ICE versions of both models are already produced. Rumors suggest that the Puma EV will utilize a battery pack around 55 kWh in size, giving it roughly 230 miles of range, but it’s quite possible that other variants – including one with more than a single electric motor – could be in the works as well.
While the Puma has long been a stalwart on the list of Europe’s best-selling vehicles, Ford recently decided to ditch its plans to convert its entire passenger vehicle lineup in that region to EVs by 2030 amid weakening demand. Regardless, the Ford Puma Gen-E will add to its growing list of all-electric vehicles on sale in Europe, which most recently added the new Ford Explorer EV and Ford Capri EV.
