After Moray Callum, vice president, design, for Ford and Lincoln vehicles, opted to retire following a long and successful run at The Blue Oval back in 2021, his successor was tabbed rather quickly – Anthony Lo, who had previously spent a decade at Renault as the head of exterior design. However, Lo only lasted around three years on the job before the automaker announced that he would be departing The Blue Oval this past May. At that time, it was unclear where Lo might head next, as he simply stated that he was going to “explore new opportunities,” but now, it seems as if the design lead has found that opportunity.
According to Car Design News, Anthony Lo has accepted the position of vice president of global design at Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd. (BAIC), a Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer headquartered in Shunyi, Beijing. As part of this move, Lo will be based in Beijing after he spent more than a decade in Paris while working for both Renault and Ford. At The Blue Oval, he was replaced by Todd Willing this past August.
“After a long and fruitful journey at various global automotive groups, it is with great pleasure that I have decided to join BAIC Group,” Lo said. “I hope to combine my creative talents and experience with BAIC Group’s technical leadership and innovative spirit to venture into new areas of automotive design and create products and services that are currently unimaginable. I look forward to elevating the design team to a driving force within BAIC Group and working with other leaders to move towards a beautiful, meaningful and sustainable future.”
During his time at Ford, Anthony Lo expressed a desire to develop more concept car-like production models, shift to an interior-focused strategy, and look at cars as more than just modes of transportation. Lo oversaw a handful of projects during his three years there as well, including the Lincoln Model L100 concept, as well as the redesigned S650 generation 2024 Ford Mustang.
