Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for entertainment recommendation technology that may be used on future Ford EVs, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on May 27th, 2022, published on October 1st, 2024, and assigned serial number 12104914.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has been exploring ways to help people pass the time in its vehicles for a while now, filing patents for ideas such as videos games that could be incorporated into an infotainment system in various ways. We’ve also seen this come to life in vehicles like the Ford F-150 Lightning, which has a volume knob that doubles as a game controller, and in the brand new Ford Digital Experience software, which can host a number of apps – including games. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going by introducing us to an idea for entertainment recommendation technology that may be used on future Ford EVs as well.
The main premise here is to give EV owners a better entertainment experience while they’re charging those vehicles, which can oftentimes take a while. The automaker notes that certain charging stations are surrounded by ways that one could pass time – such as restaurants, movie theaters, or gaming facilities, but that isn’t always the case, and when traveling, owners may not be aware of the existence of those types of things nearby, either. Thus, it proposes this system as a way to recommend various types of entertainment for owners, using some personalized preferences.
This system would take into account a variety of factors, including the length of the charging session, the type of device a user has, and the user’s preferences, after which it could recommend a suitable place to charge the vehicle based on those criteria – even displaying the costs of charging at that recommended station. It’s an interesting idea for certain, and one that could come in handy for future Ford EV owners if it does come to fruition.
