Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a noise emission level control system that may be used in future Ford EVs, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on April 14th, 2023, published on October 17th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0343148.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford – like many – continues to view all-electric vehicles as the future, and as such, has filed a bevy of patents related to EVs in recent months. That list includes – most recently – ideas for a real-time third party charger info system, a charging coaching assistant, and a system capable of using robots as charging assistants, to name just a few. Now, this newly published patent presents us with an idea for a noise emission level control system that may be used in future Ford EVs, too.
As Ford points out in the patent, EVs tend to generate various noises when they’re being charged, which aren’t necessarily that loud, but could become a potential problem in certain circumstances moving forward. This is especially true in residential areas or other places where there might be noise limits in place, which could cause issues for both those looking to charge their EV and companies that own and operate charging stations.
As such, Ford proposes this new type of system, which could determine the noise level of an all-electric vehicle when it’s charging, and take into account any noise limits in that particular area. It would then be able to adjust the charge rate to ensure that noises from the vehicle and charger don’t exceed preset limits, and notify the user if it needs to do so. Then, the user could proceed with the charging session or choose another charger based on their preference. It’s an interesting idea, and one that could become necessary if we reach the point where future EV chargers generate too much noise for some to tolerate.
Comments
That noise you hear is your EV depreciating like a rock.
EVs don’t depreciate and don’t make noises. You do on both counts!
