Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an integrated rearview mirror tag hook that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on April 5th, 2023, published on October 10th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0336195.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has published a few patents in recent months outlining ways that it may one day give rearview mirrors a bit more functionality – including ideas for a system capable of providing alternative views for blocked mirrors, as well as a rearview mirror image stabilization system. Now, this newly published patent presents us with a much simpler and yet potentially useful idea for an integrated rearview mirror tag hook that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
These days, many of us place passes of all kinds on our rearview mirrors, which could be used for things like paying tolls or simply proving that we’re authorized to park in a certain area. Trouble is, modern day rearview mirrors tend to bit a bit thicker around the stem, which can make it difficult to hang these types of tags – and in many cases, they simply either won’t fit or could potentially fall off. Thus, this patient aims to resolve those problems by adding a built-in hook to the forward-facing portion of the rearview mirror.
Given the added tech and growth we’ve seen in automotive rearview mirrors in recent years, it’s actually surprising that we haven’t seen an idea like this surface until now, truthfully. Regardless, Ford is at least thinking about adding a simple hook to its future vehicles as a way to resolve issues pertaining to those changes. If nothing else, we imagine that such a change wouldn’t be terribly expensive to make, and it could one day make our lives just a tiny bit more convenient when it’s time to display a pass in that area.

Much better concept than the one GM tried back in the mid ’00s with some midsize models influenced by European versions. A side of the windshield clip that broke off in the first month I had the car. But this could also break off when a sunshade is used, it looks like. And possibly screw up the whole mirror. Try again.
Seriously a patent . Does someone actually have a job designing these patents. Nothing wrong with hooking a card to the stem or tying it to the stem. I wonder how much they paid the children to draw it with crayons
