Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an adaptive exhaust control remote start system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on April 21st, 2023, published on October 24th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0352912.
The Ford Authority Take
Among the many features that have become much more prevalent in modern automobiles, remote start and adaptive exhaust are two of the more common. Most every new vehicle comes with remote start these days, in fact, which gives one the ability to start their vehicles by pressing buttons on the key fob or via a smartphone application like FordPass, while adaptive exhaust is reserved more for performance-focused vehicles, giving owners the option to quiet things down as a courtesy for the neighbors, then crank up the volume out on the track or open road. Soon, those two very different features may work in harmony, however.
That will be the case if this newly published Ford patent comes to light, as it presents us with an idea for an adaptive exhaust control remote start system that may be used in future Ford vehicles. In this case, the system would be able to determine if a person or animal is near the vehicle when the user attempts to remote start it, and if they’re within a predetermined distance, it could delay the execution of that remote start.
Additionally, the vehicle could initiate the remote start request, but it would instead do so in quiet mode, so as not to disturb the nearby person and/or creature. It’s certainly fair to think that a loud remote start without a person even near the vehicle could startle one or both, which is the motivating factor behind this patent. Whether or not it comes to fruition, well, that remains to be seen, but we can imagine that there are plenty of other uses for an adaptive remote start system, regardless.
