Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano are carrying the torch for The Blue Oval as the only NASCAR Ford drivers who advanced into the Round of 8. With just four races left in the 2024 season, all eyes are on these two as they do battle for the Cup Series title. But what, exactly, might it take for them to avoid elimination and compete in the Championship 4?
A recent report from NASCAR.com gives some insight for advancement into the Championship 4. Of course, the most surefire way to avoid elimination before the final round would be to win a race in the Round of 8. Las Vegas is up next on October 20th, 2024. Logano already has three wins there, so suffice to say he knows how to throw the No. 22 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse around the 1.5-mile oval. In fact, each time Logano won the title – in 2018 and 2022 – he won the opening race in the Round of 8.
Blaney, however, hasn’t been as good at Las Vegas as Logano has. His No. 12 NASCAR Ford hasn’t visited Victory Lane there yet, but the defending Cup Series champion has the best odds of the two to win on Sunday.
“I feel like we are in a pretty decent spot,” Blaney said. “I was really happy with our speed at Kansas and I thought that was huge at a place we have struggled at. We hadn’t been the best there the last few years but to go there and have race-winning pace was really impressive for our group.”
He added, “Hopefully, we can carry that over to Vegas and Homestead and learn from the spring at Martinsville. I think we are in a good spot. We just have to go perform. It is a new week next week and I am looking forward to getting started.”
Of course, Vegas isn’t the only race standing between the NASCAR Ford drivers and the Championship 4. Homstead-Miami is scheduled for October 27th, followed by Martinsville on November 3rd. Anything could happen before the season concludes at Phoenix on November 10th.
