Imported 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Up For Auction

As most Blue Oval fans are well aware by now, the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth is one of the most special models ever to come from that particular automaker, and in that vein, we routinely see examples of the rare, high-performance, homologated rally machine pop up at auction and sell for big bucks. An iconic machine that enjoyed tremendous success in motorsports, it’s no surprise that the somewhat rare road-going version continues to conjure up plenty of collector interest, and that should also be the case with this 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth that’s now up for auction.

This particular Ford Sierra RS Cosworth is currently for sale at Bring a Trailer, after it was sold new by Concessionaria Ford CEVA in Monza, Italy and subsequently imported into the U.S. earlier this year by the selling dealer. It has a reasonable 61k kilometers (around 38k miles) on the clock, and is in stellar condition. One of around 5,500 produced between 1986 and 1987, the RS Cosworth model is finished in Moonstone Blue paint and features all the things that made these cars so special – including that massive and unique rear wing.

Other than some paintwork on the fenders, the exterior remains in great condition, and the same goes for the interior. There, one will find Recaro front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in gray cloth with red-accented patterned inserts, along with power windows, an LCD clock, and a heater. Power comes from the 2.0L YB inline-four cylinder engine developed by Cosworth for this particular model, which was factory rated to send 204 horsepower to to the rear wheels via a Borg Warner T5 five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
