There are three superspeedways on the Cup Series schedule: Daytona, Talladega, and Atlanta. These tracks produce unpredictable results and races often fall in the favor of the underdog racer, but there are a handful of drivers who seem to have conquered superspeedway-style racing, including several NASCAR Ford drivers.
A recent report from NASCAR.com reveals the drivers who have earned the most points at superspeedways so far in 2024. With Talladega on the horizon in the middle of the Playoffs, earning points at the tough 2.66-mile track will be critical for the championship. Chase Briscoe is up there, having collected 86 points at superspeedways this year in the No. 14 Ford Mustang Dark Horse. His best finish was 10th in the Daytona 500, and his worst result was 38th at Atlanta back in February.
Next up is Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Mustang, who’s gathered 118 points at superspeedways this year. His pack racing results are highlighted by a win in the second Atlanta race just a few weeks ago, but he brought it home 32nd in the Daytona 500 after being swept up in a wreck.
Unsurprisingly, Ryan Blaney is one of the top superspeedway drivers this year. He’s earned 169 points and boasts a best finish of second at Atlanta in February, driving the No. 12 Mustang, although like Logano, he was caught up in a crash that relegated him to 30th in the Daytona 500.
Finally, Austin Cindric has collected the most points at superspeedways among the NASCAR Ford drivers – and the entire Playoffs field. His No. 2 Mustang has earned 181 points thus far this season, boasting a best finish of fourth at Atlanta in February, but his worst finish was 23th at Talladega in April. The 2022 Daytona 500 champion heads into this weekend with sights on redeeming himself at the blisteringly fast racetrack.
The race at Talladega is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST on Sunday, October 6th, 2024.
