Penrite Racing, which fields a pair of Ford Mustang GT race cars in the Australian Supercars championship, will race with a set of special colors at this weekend’s Bathurst 1000. Finished in gold, black, and red, the No. 19 Mustang of Garth Tander and Matt Payne and the No. 26 Mustang of Richie Stanaway and Matt Payne will hit Mount Panorama with sights set on the win this weekend.
In 2023, Penrite ran with a brushed copper paint scheme, but now, the team is going for gold. The new paint scheme is an “evolution” of last year’s livery, and features a half-black, half-gold scheme.
“The metallic gold hue of the Penrite Racing Mustang’s will contrast perfectly with the sleek black which fans have become accustomed to,” Penrite Racing said in a statement. “There is no doubt that Car 19 & 26 will stand out from the pack as they make their way across the iconic mountain.”
The organization added, “The theme motivating the team to strive towards Mount Panorama success is the legacy attached to ‘conquering the mountain.’ A win at the Bathurst 1000 means immortality in the Australian sporting landscape.”
Tander, who will share the No. 19 Ford Mustang with Payne, is a five-time Bathurst winner himself, giving the young driver a great shot at adding the crown jewel of Supercars to his repertoire. Penrite Racing Team Principal David Cauchi, along with Technical Director Grant McPherson, are both Bathurst and Champion winning engineers.
Meanwhile, Stanaway hopes to put a disappointing Sandown race behind him with success on Mount Panorama this weekend. Stanaway is the reigning Bathurst champion, and his race engineer, Alistair McVean, has won four times.
The Gold liveries for Bathurst are just the latest in a growing list of special paint-outs that have decorated the Penrite Racing machines. Earlier this year, the organization ran New Zealand’s “Native Livery,” along with Darwin’s Indigenous Round livery, and, most recently, a tribute to Allan Moffat in the Sandown 500.
The 2024 Bathurst 1000 is scheduled from October 10th through 13th, 2024.
