Retired NASCAR Ford Driver Biffle Hands On In Helene Relief

Former NASCAR Ford driver Greg Biffle retired from fulltime Cup Series competition at the end of the 2016 season, but he’s stayed plenty busy since hanging up his helmet. Biffle himself is spending time in the air in his private helicopter to help provide relief to stranded families affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina along with support from Elon Musk.

Biffle joined an interview on NASCAR.com to talk about his efforts to help Helene victims last weekend. He explained that the catalyst that spurred him into action was a simple message on Facebook.

“I got a Facebook message that there was a family stranded up in the mountains in an AirBnB with young kids,” Biffle said. “As you know, people that rent AirBnBs don’t have days or weeks worth of food or canned food available, so it started to become apparent right away that they weren’t the only ones. So that brought attention to the situation.”

Biffle has been documenting his efforts on his X account and highlighting the people who have helped him along the way. His actions caught Musk’s attention, who ponied up to donate three pallets of Starlink internet systems for Biffle to bring to stranded victims, along with generators to help power the routers.

“THIS IS HUGE,” Biffle wrote on X. “I’ve seen the impact first hand for 3 minutes of WiFi and I’m so thankful for the connections of friends to be able to get this done. We will post photos and videos of these systems going out so you can know which communities will have them!”

Biffle isn’t the only one from the NASCAR family who has stepped into help Helene victims. Chevy team Hendrick Motorsports and Toyota-backed Joe Gibbs Racing have also volunteered the use of their helicopters to help provide relief.

As a reminder, Biffle drove the No. 16 NASCAR Ford for 13 seasons in the Cup Series. He was recently nominated for the Hall of Fame and was named as one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers.
