The Supercars Ford Mustang GT racers were the best of the field at Gold Coast on Saturday, October 26th, 2024. Cam Waters – who still has a shot at the 2024 title – and Thomas Randle swept the first and second positions in Race 21, despite a postrace penalty.
Waters’ No. 6 Mustang crossed the line 9.4 seconds ahead of his Tickford Racing teammate Randle in the No. 55 Mustang in Saturday’s race, which went flag-to-flag without a single safety car period. It was also the first race in Gold Coast history in which all competitors finished without a single DNF.
“What a day and what weekend so far,” Waters said. “This thing has been an absolute rocket ship all weekend, and even Tommy’s [Randle] car as well, so massive credit to all the boys and girls at Tickford for giving us some jets. It’s so awesome to convert that into a race win.”

Randle held off Broc Feeney, driver of the No. 88 Chevy Camaro, who passed the No. 19 Supercars Ford Mustang of Matt Payne for fourth late in the race.
“It doesn’t get any better than the 1-2 finish on Saturday. Both of our drivers delivered, with Cam Waters out in front and Thomas Randle racing up the grid,” said Rod Nash, Tickford Team Principal.
However, a penalty put a damper on Tickford’s one-two celebration. Grove Racing filed protests against fellow Supercars Ford teams Tickford and Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) due to pit lane operational breaches. Specifically, the teams involved incorrect wheel placement during pit stops. Motorsport Australia issued a $1,500 fine to each team and docked them 30 Teams’ Championship Points, but the race results remained intact.
Race 22 on Sunday didn’t quite fall in the Supercars Ford teams’ favor. Chaz Mostert, driver of the No. 25 Mustang, was mathematically eliminated from championship contention after a rough go at Gold Coast after being swept up in a late-race wreck. Waters brought the No. 6 Mustang across the line in fourth after suffering damage to his race car, followed by Randle in fifth place.
Brodie Kostecki – who will join Supercars Ford team DJR in 2025 – cruised to the victory in his No. 1 Camaro.
