Among the handful of ultra-famous vehicles that have starred in TV shows or movies over the years, the Batmobile is one of the more widely recognized and iconic, without a doubt. The original build was based on the 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car that was subsequently customized by the late, great George Barris for the original Batman TV show, but has since transformed into a global phenomenon in various forms, which makes it unsurprising that many Batmobile replicas have been created by fans over the years. Now, we can add this very cool 1978 Lincoln Continental to that list.
Up for auction at Bring a Trailer, this 1978 Lincoln Continental Batmobile build was modified in much the same manner as the original from the 1960s – a multi-year project that was commissioned by the seller. Not much of the original Lincoln Continental remains, however, aside from its chassis, which has been treated to custom fiberglass bodywork, double-bubble windscreens, batwing-style tail fins, an emergency beacon, a rear turbine-style vent, rear parachute bags, and polished vertical stacks, coupled with five-spoke alloy wheels wearing red Batman logos.
The Batman theme carries over to the cabin, where one will find black leather seats coupled with an arc-style steering wheel, lap belts, a compass, a Code 3 siren system, a bat phone, detect-a-scope, a Geiger counter, a bat-ram control lever, an anti-theft activator, and an emergency bat-turn lever. Power comes from a rebuilt 400 cubic-inch V8, which has been dressed up with some Edelbrock parts and is mated to a C3 three-speed automatic transmission.
This isn’t the first time we’ve come across a Batmobile replica on the auction block, though most of those builds are all based on different models. In fact, a 1975 Lincoln Continental Mark VI similar to this went up for grabs roughly three years ago, right around the same time we saw a newer-style model with 1965 Blue Oval underpinnings.

I wonder if the matching Batman and Robin costumes are part of the package?
Thr real Batmobile from the TV series had a bat shaped steering wheel. I built the scale model.
