The last of the compact Ford Ranger pickups was sold in the U.S. a pretty long time ago, and it was a number of years before that model came back as a mid-sizer in the states back in 2019. Meanwhile, the Maverick has taken the old Ranger’s place as the small Blue Oval pickup offered to buyers, too. However, we’re starting to see more and more older (and smaller) Ford Ranger pickups surfacing for sale at collector car auctions – oftentimes, in great condition with few miles on the clock – and this 1989 pickup is the latest of that ever-increasing bunch.
This 1989 Ford Ranger is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 38k miles on the odometer, in fact, and it’s a nicely optioned model that’s in fantastic condition, too. This Ranger is an XLT trimmed, regular cab pickup that reportedly lived its entire life with the original owner until the seller acquired it earlier this year, and perhaps unsurprisingly, there are no exterior flaws noted in the auction listing. From what we can see, the Crystal Blue clearcoat metallic paint and corresponding silver lower accents look no worse for wear, nor do the 15-inch alloy wheels or chrome trim.
The same goes for the cabin, where one will find pristine Crystal Blue vinyl upholstery, along with a few amenities such as air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and locks, and a cassette stereo. Mechanically speaking, this Ford Ranger is equipped with the naturally-aspirated 2.9L V6, a four-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive, coupled with power-assisted front disc brakes and power steering.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Ford Ranger from this generation in this kind of condition, though a 1991 model did surface back in August with 65k miles on the clock. However, that example only hammered for around $7,700, so it’s certainly possible this one will go for a reasonable price, too.
